What Is The Ramparts of Ice About?
Our FL is Koyuki Hikawa, and she had a really rough time in school. Everyone bullied her because of her height and constantly crossed the line. That’s why she keeps everyone at arm’s length in high school and spends her days alone – except when she meets up with her best friend. One day, while trying to figure out if her face looks too scary, our ML Minato Amamiya pops up next to her and catches her completely off guard. From then on, he keeps pushing the boundaries in a “I’m going to be annoyingly nice until you let me in” kind of way. With Miki, the popular girl, and Youta, the laid-back giant basketball player, the main cast is set – and very lovable.
If you know Kōcha Agasawa’s other work – You and I Are Polar Opposites – you’ll recognize the style. The manga ranked second in AnimeJapan’s “Most Wanted Anime Adaptation” poll in 2023, so the hype has been building for a while. Check out my article if you want to know which romance titles made the top 10 in the 2026 poll.

Where to Read The Ramparts of Ice in English
There’s only one official English source: MangaPlaza. They have the full-color version, and the first 49 chapters are free to read. After that, you’ll need to pay per chapter. It costs 0.89 USD. So if you buy every chapter it would cost you around 56 USD. 113 is the last episode and will be released on June 22. It isn’t released weekly, so here is the full schedule:
- chapter 106: May 11
- chapter 106 & 107: May 11
- chapter 108 & 109: May 25
- chapter 110 & 111: June 08
- chapter 112 & 113: June 22
There is no English print release, so if you want to read it legally in English, MangaPlaza is your only option.
For Japanese readers, the manga was originally serialized on LINE Manga and is also available on Shonen Jump+. The 14 print volumes were published under Shueisha’s Jump Comics imprint, with the final volume released in February 2025.
One thing worth knowing: The Ramparts of Ice started as a vertical-scroll webtoon and was later reformatted into a traditional page layout for print. So the reading experience will feel pretty different depending on which version you pick up.
Where to Watch the Anime
The anime adaptation premiered on April 2, 2026, and is streaming exclusively on Netflix worldwide. In Japan, it airs on TBS. New episodes drop weekly – 12 episodes are confirmed for Season 1.
The anime is produced by Studio Kai, directed by Mankyū, with series composition by Yasuhiro Nakanishi. It’s currently available with Japanese audio and subtitles.
Should You Read the Manga or Watch the Anime First?
Honestly, this is one of those cases where you can’t really go wrong. The manga is completed, so if you’re the type who hates waiting for weekly episodes, you can binge the full story right now on MangaPlaza. The anime just started, so it’ll only cover part of the manga this season. That said, the anime is really good so far – so it might actually be nicer to go in blind and experience the story fresh.
