With this article, I want to take you along on my reading journey. I have more titles that I’m currently letting marinate, or that I’ve put on hold for other reasons, but these are the romance webtoons I’m enjoying the most right now. This content is normally exclusive to my paid Patreon tiers. If you like this list and want to read more like it check out my Patreon:
‘My Fake Crush’
I just binged ‘My Fake Crush’ because it was recently completed on Webtoon — and it’s still available for free. Great pick if you’re into childhood-friends-to-lovers, though the ML can be a bit too much and the FL is extremely shy.
Overall enjoyment: 6/10 (Full review: https://bestinromance.com/my-fake-crush-webtoon-review/)
‘Duchess in Ruins’
I read this one weekly and I enjoy it very much. It’s so refreshing to see how grateful the FL is for every little thing, even though she has had a very tough life and her “father” is still trying to use her. The transition from yearning to actually confessing felt a bit off to me, but ‘Duchess in Ruins’ is still one of the best historical romance manhwa you can read on Webtoon.
‘Living with Romeo’
I really don’t understand why more people aren’t talking about this gem. Perfect example of “show, don’t tell”: you don’t get two or three chapters dedicated to a complicated backstory, or exposition panels where none of the info sticks anyway. Instead, the story lets you think that Romi is together with Sol’s mum. Small spoiler that enhances your enjoyment: Sol’s mum (I forgot her name) and Romi are just plain weird and chaotic. They are NOT romantically involved. Expect a chaotic story with VERY heavy topics (like suicide attempts), but in my opinion there was never a scene where it felt like too much. ‘Living with Romeo’ just feels like a breath of fresh air.
‘Childhood Friend Complex’
I will die on this hill: ‘Childhood Friend Complex’ is still one of my all-time favorite romance webtoons. I know it’s freaky, but I love the art and the dynamic between the main couple far too much to care. One of those stories I could reread again and again — even with the miscommunication arc in Season 2.
‘Our Guild’s Idol’
Normally I’m not the biggest fan of romance webtoons with a lot of in-game sequences because the MCs are gamers. It can take you out of the story a bit. ‘Our Guild’s Idol’ doesn’t have that problem. Even with a LOT of in-game sequences where the characters are chibis and talk via chat, the author still manages to create tension. You find yourself rooting for Ajin, the FL, very quickly. And although the ML hides his identity, it’s incredibly sweet to see him try so hard to protect her.
‘For Your Perfect Ending’
If you’re into yandere MLs who try VERY hard to seem sweet to the FL, then ‘For Your Perfect Ending’ is a treat. Not only are the MLs drawn well enough to make you want to jump through the screen — the story has some interesting twists as well. I really don’t want to spoil anything, but if you love a reverse isekai with a strong FL, definitely give this one a try.
‘My Promise to You’
A Canvas gem, and I even did an interview with its lovely creator, Potcha. ‘My Promise to You’ is primarily a drama and I’d classify it as enemies-to-lovers, but nothing is certain yet. There are 13 episodes so far, with roughly two new ones a month. Check out the interview for more details.
