Firefly Wedding Manga: Where to Read All the Chapters

If I had to describe Firefly Wedding in one word, it would be: INTENSE. There’s a lot of blood, stalking, and abuse, so this manga isn’t for the faint of heart. Well, that’s not entirely true, because I consider myself someone who can’t stomach horror and similar stuff all that well, and I still managed to read it, although the first chapters and the first anime episode were hard to get through.

If you’re watching the anime and want to dive straight into the manga, here’s everything you need to know.

Where to read Firefly Wedding manga online in English

There are several legal ways to read Firefly Wedding in English. Which one is best depends on whether you prefer individual chapters, a subscription, or complete manga volumes.

1. Comikey: Read Firefly Wedding chapter by chapter

Comikey is an official app for manga and other webcomics. It also has Firefly Wedding and publishes the manga as individual chapters.

As of October 2026, Comikey lists 83 chapter entries and marks the series as completed. Some chapters are divided in two parts, so the last official chapter is chapter 79.2. In order to unlock them you need to use “keys”, but there are ways to read without paying.

According to Comikey’s official FAQ, the mobile app provides two free-reading options:

• Daily Pass: Unlock an eligible chapter for free every 23 hours. I checked, it’s available for every chapter of Firefly Wedding, except the last one.
• Watch to Read: Unlock an eligible chapter by watching an advertisement.

Chapters unlocked through these methods remain accessible for 72 hours. Comikey is worth checking if you want to read Firefly Wedding chapter by chapter without buying a whole volume.

2. VIZ Manga: Read Firefly Wedding with a subscription

Another option is VIZ Manga. The series was added to its digital library on October 15, 2026. At the time of writing, chapters 1 through 49 are listed on VIZ Manga. The first three chapters are free, the rest require a subscription.

The VIZ Manga subscription costs $1.99 per month in the United States. New subscribers can also receive a one-week free trial, according to the publisher’s FAQ.

However, there is an important restriction. The VIZ Manga chapter service is officially available only in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

If you live outside these countries, including Germany and most of Europe, you won’t be able to read Firefly Wedding through VIZ Manga. The English manga volumes are sold separately and may still be available through retailers in your country.

3. VIZ Media: Buy Firefly Wedding as digital or physical volumes

VIZ Media also publishes Firefly Wedding in English under its Shojo Beat imprint. The first English volume was released on January 14, 2025, and the publisher has continued releasing new volumes in both print and digital formats.

As of October 2026, eight English volumes are available. Volume 8 was released on October 13, 2026, and Volume 9 is scheduled for January 5, 2027. In Germany, the print release is a bit further behind. So far, TOKYOPOP has only published the first three volumes. You’ll have to check what’s available in your country.

The paperback volumes cost $11.99 each, while the digital versions are available for $6.99. Prices may vary depending on where you buy them. You can find the volumes on VIZ’s official website, which also links to stores like Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Can you read Firefly Wedding manga for free?

Yes, although there are a few restrictions. Personally, I think Comikey is the best place to start. It has a great app, is available worldwide, and lets you unlock chapters for free if you’re patient enough.

The next best option is VIZ Manga. For $1.99 per month, the subscription is a pretty affordable way to read the manga, especially compared to buying chapters individually.

Unfortunately, VIZ Manga isn’t available in Germany, so I can’t try the app myself. If you’re reading Firefly Wedding on VIZ Manga in the US, I’d love to hear what you think of it in the comments!

Is the Firefly Wedding manga finished?

Yes, Firefly Wedding is complete.

The main story concluded in 2026, and the final collected volume, Volume 13, was released by Japanese publisher Shogakukan on October 19, 2026. But that’s not quite the end of the published material.

On the same day, Shogakukan also released a separate side-story volume titled Hotaru no Yomeiri Gaiden: Hitokiri to Yōdō. It explores part of Shinpei’s journey that was not fully depicted in the main story.

The English release is still a bit behind. As of October 2026, VIZ Media has published eight volumes, with Volume 9 coming in January 2027. But if you prefer reading online, you can already read all the chapters on Comikey.

What is Firefly Wedding about?

If I had to sum up Firefly Wedding in one sentence, it would be this: A yandere and a sheltered, sickly noblewoman meet and fall in love because they both have extremely fucked-up lives. Do we call that a trauma bond? Yeah, probably.

It’s toxic, there are plenty of fights, questionable decisions, and tragic outcomes, but if you’re into dark romance, you’ll love Firefly Wedding. If you don’t mind an unnecessarily bittersweet ending, that is.

But let me give you a few more (mostly) spoiler-free details about the story, so you can decide whether you want to pick it up.

Firefly Wedding, known as Hotaru no Yomeiri (ホタルの嫁入り) in Japan, takes place during the Meiji era.

Satoko Kirigaya is a young noblewoman who appears to have everything. She comes from a respected family, is considered beautiful, and has excellent marriage prospects. Unfortunately, she also suffers from a serious heart condition and is not expected to live long.

Knowing that her time is limited, Satoko hopes to arrange a marriage that will benefit her family. Her carefully planned future takes a violent turn when she’s kidnapped by an unknown group of men. This happens in the very first chapter. And a major trigger warning before we go any further: sexual assault.

The people who had her kidnapped want her dead by nine o’clock. Any man who lays a hand on her before then is supposed to be dealt with by Shinpei Goto, our male lead. But he’s also the one who’s supposed to kill her at nine.

Desperate to survive, Satoko makes an unexpected proposal: she asks Shinpei to marry her. She doesn’t mean it, of course. But Shinpei does.

When some of the men start assaulting her, Shinpei steps in, accepts her proposal, and the two run away together. And that’s how their love story begins.

Who created Firefly Wedding?

Firefly Wedding was written and illustrated by Oreco Tachibana, the creator of Promise Cinderella. A good romance Manga where the female lead is older than the male lead.

According to VIZ Media’s author biography, Tachibana began sharing paintings on Twitter in 2016 and gained attention through self-published manga projects and illustrations on Pixiv. Her first serialized manga, Promise Cinderella, launched in 2018.

Firefly Wedding followed in 2023. The series has since become a considerable success. In October 2026, Shogakukan announced that the manga had surpassed five million copies in circulation.

Does Firefly Wedding have an anime adaptation?

Yes! The Firefly Wedding anime premiered on October 9, 2026. You can see the Trailer here: Firefly Wedding Teaser Trailer.

The adaptation is animated by david production and directed by Takahiro Kamei. It is available on Crunchyroll in numerous regions, including North America and Europe. There is more on the way, too. A live-action television drama has been announced for 2027 on Fuji TV in Japan.
