This collaboration is absolutely insane and makes “The Forgotten Meadow” 잊혀진 들판 (also translated as “The Forgotten Field” – the title hasn’t been officially set in English yet) one of the most anticipated releases ever. Bestselling author Kim Su-ji (김수지), the author of “Under the Oak Tree”, delivers the source material, and Spoon (스푼), the artist of “Who Made Me a Princess”, translates it into images. And if you haven’t seen it yet: “Who Made Me a Princess” is a Manhwa with godlike art.
The webtoon adaptation begins May 4, 2026 at 10 PM Korean time. Here’s what the manhwa will be about and what international readers can expect.
Kim Su-ji: The Author Behind “The Forgotten Meadow”
Kim Su-ji is no newcomer. She has been writing romance web novels for over two decades, but her real breakthrough came with “Under the Oak Tree” (상수리나무 아래). After the release, it topped the bestseller lists in five countries and became the first Korean web novel ever to land on the New York Times bestseller list. For those of you who don’t know the story: it’s about a very traumatized female lead and a supposed ruffian male lead who is head over heels for his wife. It is very spicy.
“The Forgotten Meadow” shares its universe with “Under the Oak Tree” and has been celebrated by fans since its first chapter went live on Kakao Page in April 2025: the work hit one million views within two days, 3.5 million after 15 days, and now sits at over 20 million cumulative views – with a 9.7 reader rating. The novel is still ongoing on Kakao. There are no official English translations available yet, so anything you find online will be a fan translation. That said, I’d expect Manta to pick it up soon given its huge popularity. They already published the “Under the Oak Tree” novel, so it would make sense.

Spoon: The Artist Behind “Who Made Me a Princess” Joins the Project
Anyone in the international manhwa scene knows Spoon – probably without realizing it. Spoon illustrated the webtoon adaptation of “Who Made Me a Princess” (어느 날 공주가 되어버렸다), one of the most successful romance-fantasy webtoons of all time. And for good reason: the art is one of the best in manhwa I have ever seen. I am so excited for this adaptation.

“The Forgotten Meadow” Plot and Main Characters
Our two protagonists are Talia Roem Gwirta and Varkas Laedgo Sirkan. They’ve known each other since they were little and fell in love. But according to the Kakao summary, their relationship takes a turn for the worse. One quote from the Kakao announcement on Instagram, referencing chapter 22 of the novel, reads:
Dropping even his ceremonial courtesy, Varkas snarled coldly to her face:
“The patience I was willing to spend on you today has already run out.”
In the Kakao post, it says that it will be a “혐관” (hyeom-gwan) (hate-romance). So apparently this could count as true enemies-to-lovers, because in Korean there are also other terms for a love-hate relationship that aren’t quite as deep as hyeom (hate). This quote on Kakao sums up the story:
I pray every day for this love to die. Let me love you only until today, and tomorrow, may this love be dead.
Here is the translated version of the summary on Kakao:
Talia Roem Gwirta, an ill-fated imperial princess born from an affair. She grows up twisted and wounded among indifferent parents, hostile half-siblings, and servants who despise her. Having protected herself by raising thorns against anyone who approaches her, Talia finds herself defenseless in front of only one person. That person is Varkas Laedgo Sirkan, the noble son of the East.
As a vassal of the imperial family and heir to a grand duke, he has been forced to embody perfection. Raised under discipline that borders on abuse, most of his emotions have become numb. He is a man who exists only for his family’s honor and duty.
To keep a promise made to the former Empress, he becomes engaged to Talia’s half-sister, Aila. Talia, overwhelmed by despair, slowly begins to fall apart.
But then, the love she believed was destined to die reaches an unexpected turning point…
Is “The Forgotten Meadow” as Spicy as “Under the Oak Tree”?
The novel doesn’t have an R19 tag, so if you’re expecting the same spice level as “Under the Oak Tree”, you might be disappointed. But if anyone reading this has already read the novel, please share some insight with us in the comments!
“The Forgotten Meadow” English Translation: When Can International Readers Read It?
As nice as all this sounds, it looks a bit bleak for international readers. Not even the novel has an official English translation yet, despite its popularity. But that doesn’t mean we should give up hope: manhwa are still way more popular in the West than light novels. So if this manhwa gets a huge fanbase – which it already has – we can expect an official English translation soon.
