Villain With A Crush Review: A Hilarious Webtoon That Will Lift Your Mood

Villain With A Crush Review

Official Summary on Webtoon

Dumped after confessing to her first crush of three years, Rosa Park falls for her second when the nation’s favorite Superpowered Police Officer, Doryeong Han, swoops in to save her as she’s plummeting from a toppling building. A few years later, a mysterious villain called Blackdog appears, but Doryeong notices something is not quite right. Will the world’s worst villain ever win the heart of the strongest hero in the country?

Is Villain With A Crush worth reading? Short review

Yes, especially if you want to raise your spirits and laugh out loud because Villain with a Crush is one of the funniest Webtoons I have ever read. And I’ve read a ton. But you do have to be in the mood for a chaotic read. It’s not all over the place storywise, but the characters are wild sometimes. And the whole thing is based on a huge misunderstanding that doesn’t get resolved for a big portion of the story.

Villain with a crush characters

artstyle: good

The art won’t make you go: “Wow, this is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,” but it’s consistent, the proportions are always on point, and best of all: We finally have a female character who is supposedly the strongest in the world and is actually drawn with muscles (and she’s not the only one).

romance: slow but sweet

The romance between Rosa and Doryeong feels slow and quick at the same time. Because Rosa doesn’t tell him who she really is, there’s always that little bit of angst in the back of your mind while reading. At the same time, they do get close fairly quickly in school, where Doryeong doesn’t know that Rosa is Blackdog. But keep in mind: While they do have sweet moments that are well written, you won’t get many lovey-dovey moments in Villain with a Crush.

characters: great and lovable cast with second couple

Villain with a Crush has hilarious characters and everyone brings a unique dynamic to the table. You also get to cheer on more than one couple, and the second couple is unexpected but sweet with a hilarious dynamic. My only critique is the second ML:

Show Spoiler

U-seop Nam gets closer to Rosa very quickly and they form a wholesome friendship. He is always there for her. And it would have been so perfect if they just stayed friends without any feelings involved. But of course he had to catch feelings… why, romance authors, why…

protagonists: strong FL, strong and green flag ML

Doryeong Han is a very righteous police officer who always tries to help people. He has many fans but tries to hide his insecurities. He can be very stubborn when it comes to his archnemesis Blackdog, and that can feel one-dimensional at times. But he does come around at some point.

Rosa Park is such a fun FL. She is the strongest human on earth, second only to her grandmother (their dynamic is hilarious too, by the way), while still being extremely awkward, shy, and naive. She has a good heart though.

Read if you…

  • like seeing strong women who actually look strong, something that’s still far too rare in Webtoons
  • enjoy when characters are extremely chaotic
  • are in the mood for a unique reading experience. The story isn’t completely groundbreaking, but Villain with a Crush feels very fresh
  • love the hidden identity trope
  • hate misunderstandings. They are the whole premise of Villain with a Crush, and you will probably get annoyed when it’s not resolved beyond chapter 50 (and it won’t)
  • don’t like it when the protagonists lie to each other (hidden identity and all)
  • can’t cope when the dynamic between the second ML and the obvious endgame is way better (at first)
  • don’t like it when the bad guys aren’t very deep. They’re just bad
