Ending Maker Has Been on Hiatus: What We Actually Know About A Return Date

Ending Maker Hiatus News

Ending Maker has been on hiatus for quite some time, and every few months, a new Reddit post pops up asking whether the action romance manhwa has been cancelled or is just paused. Information about the series is scattered across different platforms, so I’ve put together an overview of the current status to clear up the confusion.

Ending Maker Hiatus – TL;DR

  • Current chapter count: 67
  • English publisher: Tapas
  • Korean publisher: Kakao
  • Hiatus on Kakao since: July 2024
  • Hiatus on Tapas since: January 31, 2025
  • Reason for hiatus: Health issues of artist DOES
  • Novel status: Finished
  • Official return date: None yet

Ending Maker: When Did the Hiatus Start?

The English release entered an official hiatus at the beginning of 2025. Readers on Tapas were informed through an announcement on January 31, 2025 that the series would pause to give the creative team more time to prepare upcoming episodes.

The last official update on Kakao was published on July 5, 2024:

Hello, this is Carrotoon.
Ending Maker, which was scheduled to be uploaded on July 6, will be entering a long-term hiatus due to unavoidable delays in production caused by the author’s health.
We will inform you about the exact return schedule through a future notice.
We kindly ask for your support and encouragement for the author’s recovery, and for your generous understanding.
Thank you.
🥕 Sincerely, Carrotoon

There were several shorter pauses before this long-term break, but the production team repeatedly assured fans that Ending Maker would continue. Even the author of the original story, 취룡 (Chwiryong), spoke out via Twitter (X). He explained that the original illustrator, known as DOES, is still involved with Ending Maker and that the team was aiming for a return early the following year, though without any fixed schedule. This suggested that there were hopes for a comeback sometime in 2025, but those plans were later postponed.

Is Ending Maker Canceled?

No. All available statements point to a hiatus, not a cancellation. Platform notices and publisher announcements consistently describe the situation as a temporary pause. There has been no official statement from Kakao, Tapas, or Carrotoon suggesting that the webtoon has been discontinued.

It’s also a positive sign that the hiatus notice is still displayed on Kakao. That said, both Webtoon and Tapas have a history of unclear hiatus communication. A recent example is the confusion around Roxana on Tapas, where many readers assumed the series was cancelled despite the lack of an official announcement.

For now, there is no confirmed return date, and fans should be cautious about rumors claiming specific comeback schedules.

Why Is the Series on Hiatus?

The English Tapas announcements never mentioned medical details, but Kakao published two official notices that clarified the situation. The most detailed statement, released on October 27, 2023, explained:

Hello, this is Carrotoon from Ending Maker.

The artist DOES, who is in charge of the Ending Maker webtoon, has been experiencing difficulties with her work due to essential tremor in both hands and sleep disorder symptoms.
In order to allow the artist to recover her health and to ensure the future continuation of the series, we have unavoidably decided to take a three-month hiatus.
We will provide another notice with the exact return date once a specific schedule has been confirmed.
We kindly ask for the readers’ generous understanding and for your warm support and encouragement for the artist’s recovery.
— Carrotoon

This remains the clearest official explanation for the long break.

Ending Maker: Novel vs. Manhwa

Fans who want to continue the story don’t have to wait. The original novel is already finished, so it offers full closure even if the webtoon never returns.

The manhwa adaptation follows the novel quite closely but is still far behind in terms of story progress. By the time the series entered its hiatus in 2024, the webtoon had only covered the early portion of the novel. According to reader comparisons, chapter 67 of the webtoon corresponds roughly to chapter 56 of the novel, which means a huge part of the plot is still untouched.

Readers have also noted that the pacing of the comic version is relatively slow and detailed. If the webtoon were to adapt the entire novel at its current speed, it would likely take many more years before the story could reach its conclusion.
