My Aggravating Sovereign is a story about a king and his bodyguard, who is also our female lead. This is not a story-driven romance by any means. The focus lies on how the crown prince tries to win the FL over rather than on a larger overarching plot. The protagonists don’t really pursue a clear goal. Instead, the series follows their everyday life and their efforts to keep the kingdom safe. It is fun and refreshing, but don’t expect it to blow your mind.
artstyle: awesome
The art by Kanata is gorgeous. The expressions and proportions are drawn beautifully, and you can tell the artist has a lot of fun with details like shoes and clothing.
romance: extremely fast
They get engaged in chapter one and accidentally kiss just a few chapters later. Their dynamic is pretty chaotic and a bit violent, but still fun, as long as you don’t mind that the ML has little to no sense of boundaries.
protagonists: strong FL, even stronger but pushy ML
I saw some discussions on Reddit saying that the FL gets saved by the ML quite often. While that is true, I still think she is a strong FL because she is constantly saving other people, and many of them end up fangirling for her, like her new knight and the ML’s sister. She is definitely not a damsel in distress, so don’t worry.
characters: fun side characters
If you ignore the comically evil princess from another nation, almost all the other characters are extremely likable and fun. They are also random, like the fact that the king stays in his chibi form and only “transforms” whenever his wife is around.
