Let’s be honest: Webtoon addiction is real. You tell yourself you’ll wait until next week for the upcoming chapter… and then bam, the Fast Pass button stares at you. You click, see an interesting thumbnail, you pay, and your coin balance is gone.
But here’s the good news: you don’t always have to pay money to get coins. If you’re a regular reader wondering how to get free coins on Webtoon legally and safely, this article is for you.
Let’s dive into the real ways to score coins without emptying your wallet or falling for sketchy “hacks”.
Free Coins on Webtoon – First Things First: Don’t Trust the “Generators”
If a site promises unlimited free coins just by entering your username, click away. Webtoon coin generators are scams. Period. They ask for your login or personal info – and might get your account banned or worse, your data stolen. This is what DOES NOT work:
- Coin Hacks or Mod APKs – Illegal, risky, and bannable.
- YouTube “free coin” tricks – Almost always clickbait.
- VPN to trigger ads – Webtoon may block your account if they detect ad fraud.
- Using fake reviews in App Stores – Doesn’t give you coins and violates terms.
How to get free coins on Webtoon
Now that we’ve cleared that up… here are the real ways to earn free coins:
1. Webtoon’s Official Free Coin Events
Webtoon sometimes offers promotional events where you can earn coins just by participating. These show up on the app or homepage during:
- Anniversaries (usually around July or August)
- Holiday events (Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day)
- New title launches or return events
If you want to be up to date, they sometimes announce it via Webtoon Now but the last big coin event which was promoted there, was in 2021:
Where to find them:
- App homepage banners – under “promotions”
- Webtoon’s social media (especially Twitter/X and Instagram) – some are advertised only on Twitter, some only on Instagram. This recent event was advertised on Twitter for example, but not on Instagram:
2. Daily Check-In Events and Reading Events
Webtoon used to run daily log-in events where checking in for 7 days straight earned you 5-20 coins. But to be honest, I haven’t seen this kind of event in a long time. The Webtoon press team didn’t reply to my email, so unfortunately I can’t confirm whether these events are coming back.
Another thing I haven’t seen since the price of Fast Pass chapters went up (from 5 to 7 coins): those classic reading events where you could unlock coins by reading a set number of episodes from promoted series – usually 4 to 5 titles with 15 to 20 episodes each.
These used to be a great way to discover new Webtoons and get up to 15 free coins just for binge-reading. But ever since the price increase, these events seem to have disappeared. There are still promotional reading events though.
What’s more common now:
You get coins back after spending them – usually something like: spend 7 coins, get 5 coins refunded. Yes, you still need to spend money, but at least the episode feels “almost free.”
3. Watch Ads for Coins (Region-Limited)
In some regions (especially the U.S.), Webtoon offers the “Watch Ads to Earn Coins” feature. It appears in your coin shop section under a tab like: “Earn Free Coins”
You can watch 15-60 second videos and earn 1-3 coins per ad. Limits apply per day.
Note: If the option doesn’t appear in your app, it’s probably not available in your region.
4. Google Opinion Rewards (Android Users)
If you’re on Android, this one is a hidden gem:
How it works:
- Install Google Opinion Rewards
- Answer short surveys (takes 10-30 seconds)
- Earn Google Play credit
- Buy coins in the Webtoon app using that credit
You’re not technically getting “free” Webtoon coins – but you’re also not spending real money. It adds up surprisingly fast.
Note: Google Opinion Rewards is also available on iPhone, though I’m not sure if the rewards work the same way.
How to Make the Most of Your Coins on Webtoons
- Wait for series discounts – Some series offer Fast Pass bundles or reduced coin prices near the finale.
- Prioritize ongoing series – while the story is ongoing, most chapters are free.
- Don’t forget that the coins expire: Free coins expire after 7 days. Luckily, the app tells you the exact expiration date right below your coin balance:
Webtoons: Are free Coin-Events getting rarer?
Back in 2020, Webtoon gave out 10 free Coins for their 6th anniversary. You didn’t have to do anything – just log in and redeem them. In 2021, there were plenty of reading events, such as the September launch week for new releases, and even 5 free Coins for Halloween. But in 2022, things changed: the no-effort freebies slowly disappeared. Reading events still exist, but they’re less frequent now. Here’s a little timeline based on my own coin history. You will see how much rarer the coin events have gotten. (I didn’t join every event, but it still shows the shift well):
If a story touches you or simply makes you happy, consider supporting the artist by purchasing a few chapters. For some titles, you can also show your appreciation through the super-like feature.
