The ‘Forgotten Field’ is a new manhwa on KakaoPage, and it immediately caught readers’ attention because two huge names are attached to it. The story is based on a novel by Kim Su-ji (김수지), the author of ‘Under the Oak Tree’, while the art comes from Spoon (스푼), the artist behind ‘Who Made Me a Princess’, one of the most visually stunning manhwa out there. But how painful is this story really? And more importantly: does ‘The Forgotten Field’ have a happy ending?

Please proceed with caution: this article contains major spoilers for ‘The Forgotten Field’.

‘The Forgotten Field’: Is the novel finished?

To know for sure whether ‘The Forgotten Field’ will have a happy ending, the original novel would need to be finished first. But right now, it is still ongoing. The novel is currently running on KakaoPage with four chapters a week and has already passed 260 chapters.

There is another important thing to know: ‘The Forgotten Field’ does not have an official English translation yet. Neither the novel nor the manhwa has been officially released in English so far. That means most of the spoilers currently circulating online come from fan translations, Korean reader discussions, or spoiler threads.

If you want to read the manhwa legally in English, you will have to wait for an official platform announcement. Since many KakaoPage romance fantasy titles later appear on Tapas, that would be a likely option, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Does ‘The Forgotten Field’ have a happy ending?

At the moment, ‘The Forgotten Field’ does not have a confirmed happy ending.

If you have read the beginning of the manhwa, you already know that this story is not light. There is bullying, sexual assault, blood, emotional abuse, and a lot of suffering. But according to current fan spoilers, the story becomes even darker later on.

Readers have discussed major tragic developments, including the death of Thalia, the death of her child, and even Varkas being killed. However, the novel is not finished yet, which is why their deaths should not be treated as final, even though they do die at some point in the story. That is confirmed.

There are also fan theories suggesting that Varkas may go back in time to save Thalia. But for now, all of that is speculation.

If you compare ‘The Forgotten Field’ to ‘Under the Oak Tree’, (a very spicy manhwa) Kim Su-ji’s other major work, there is at least some reason to hope. ‘Under the Oak Tree’ put its main couple through a lot of pain, separation, trauma, and emotional distance, but it ultimately gave Riftan and Maxi a happy ending. It was not a fluffy ending with many peaceful chapters, but they did reunite and both survived.

So if Kim Su-ji follows a similar route here, ‘The Forgotten Field’ may continue to be full of angst before eventually ending on a bittersweet or short happy ending. But as of now, the honest answer is: ‘The Forgotten Field’ does not have a confirmed happy ending yet. And as of now, it looks pretty bleak.
