Is Couple Breaker worth reading? Short review
Yes. Couple Breaker is a fun modern read and the only manhwa I’ve read that focuses on an online dating show. If you can get through the first 11 chapters without getting too triggered by the protagonists being cheated on, Couple Breaker turns into an enjoyable revenge story with a great, confident female lead and has a good, happy and satisfying ending.
artstyle: godlike
The art by Taegeon is absolutely gorgeous. She captures expressions and perspectives incredibly well, making the manhwa a real joy to look at.
romance: slow but satisfying
They start off not liking each other, but their annoyance quickly fades once they begin working together on their revenge plan. The male lead falls first, and although the story ends with just a kiss, we still get some sweet moments thanks to the fake relationship trope.
characters: basically only the protagonists are likable
The concept of the show Couple Breaker in the manhwa is that established couples test their love. They earn money by touching people of the opposite sex they are not paired with. As a result, most of the cast is honestly pretty frustrating, but it still makes for an interesting read.
protagonists: strong FL, green flag ML
The female lead is definitely not a damsel in distress. She is strong, has a distinct fashion sense, and is building her own business. After getting dumped, she almost immediately comes up with her revenge plan. She even manages to get her neighbor on board, even though he doesn’t like her at first.
Read if you…
- like a modern revenge story where the antagonists aren’t extremely evil for no reason, but get what they deserve in the end
- love when the female lead is strong, confident and tall. She has a unique style and is love by everyone – except the ML in the beginning.
- like it when the ML falls first and is a green flag
- love the fake relationship trope
Skip if you…
- Hate it when protagonists have to lie constantly. They are on a dating show and have to keep the whole farce going
- Are triggered by cheaters. Both protagonists get cheated on, and this is a major focus in the first 11 chapters of the manhwa
- Don’t like reality TV shows. The entire manhwa is basically structured around a dating show
- Want to see the protagonists together. Couple Breaker ends right when they finally get together
